Some have given him credit for the tough love discipline while others have belief that he went too far. What are your thoughts?
As the above picture shows, a 17-year old boy was brutally beaten bloody and left crying when his father chose to discipline him for acting out in school. The father put boxing gloves on both he and his son and challenged him to fight back. After several blows to the face, the boy bled from his nose and mouth. The father comments on video that he was teaching his son a lesson in behavior and how to defend himself.

up LIFT west meckOn Friday, April 22, 2016 West Meck students marched down the street to demonstrate positivity, The campaign called "Uplift West Meck" is designed to show the great things at the school. West Meck has a growing negative reputation because of some highlighted incidents that occur. Fights, students cutting school, and overall detrimental things seemingly get all of the attention. However, the student body is determined to not allow the small percentage of what they call "bad students" take away from the overall good things that happen frequently. You are WEST MECK.....you are what the school is all about !!! When others say "West Meck" they are referring to YOU- the students !!! Write about some of the positive things you see, experience, and know about YOUR school in this blog !!! Eric Thomas delivered a heartfelt speech to a group of African American students last month, but the video has just gone viral recently. He is well known for his passion and emotion when motivating others. Watch it and give your own response to something he mentioned in his speech. Despite being a recognizable face in the Seattle area, Kam Chancellor was mistaken as a potential criminal by workers inside an athletic club that he was interested in buying. Chancellor, who is an African American football player for the Seattle Seahawks, stood outside taking pictures with a group of friends, attempting to get the workers inside,to open the door, but instead got a visit from the city police. Some will claim that the woman who called 911 rushed to judgement based on race and appearance, while some will defend her by stating she was simply being cautious and race wasn't an issue. Listen to the actual 911 call for yourself and write your opinion in the blog. Just this past week an organization in New York published data that reported the growing incidents of violence on school campuses in New York City. From all of the reported incidents it was stated that some type of crime occurs every 4.5 minutes in a NYC public school. This alarming data is what advocates of charter schools are dwelling on.
Just last week our very own school was on the news AGAIN over concerns of safety and school violence. Some say the school has a problem, while others don't see the need for concern. The only ones who can make a strong case on the issue of school violence IS YOU !!!! What are your thoughts on school violence? How safe do you feel at West Meck? What do you think should be done to decrease the rate of violence at THIS school? After MVP quarterback for the Carolina Panthers gave his required post game interview with the media, controversy irrupted over the internet and news stations about the way he conducted himself to reporters. Some say that he was unprofessional and behaved with poor sportsmanship while others point out that he has the right to be upset after a disappointing team performance.
Reactions are undoubtedly strong because of the way he reacts when he and his team perform well. Newton shows great exuberance and celebrates at good plays, touchdowns, and wins that his team earns. Some players believe that he is "extra", while others believe it's all in fun and it's just a game. After the Carolina Panthers loss the Super Bowl to the Denver Broncos, Newton did congratulate the opposing quarterback with a smile before heading to the locker room. The NFL requires players to be available to answer questions after the game and Newton DID make good on his duty. What do you think? Should he have shown a little more respect to the media OR do you think he is within his rights to show that much disappointment to the millions of viewers who wanted to know his thoughts and reactions to the game? Recently, Stacy Dash ( a black woman ) created a big controversy when she stated that there shouldn't be a Black History Month or BET because it further causes segregation. She stated that there isn't a such thing called "White History Month", and if there was, blacks would be upset. Many within the African American community strongly disagreed with her and even called her a hypocrite because she once received checks for appearing on a BET program. What do YOU think? Do you think that blacks should have their own cable tv show, their own history month, and other things that are exclusively for them? Do you think it further causes causes division among the races?
